Long Term Product Support

Overview

There are a number of reasons that may cause a product to near the end of its production cycle. These include the need to keep up with improvements in technology and changing industry standards. Other reasons may be a lack of demand from the market, significant changes in the product itself, or the technology has come to a point where it is no longer cost effective.

Our Long Term Product Support Policy:

  • Provides customers with 12 months’ notice of discontinuation, where possible.
  • Ensures that support is available throughout standard warranty periods.

Product Discontinuation Notices

MRC310 Discontinuation - End of Support Notice 12/04/2017

In November 2012 we announced the discontinuation of the sale of the MRC310 card capture reader and the introduction of the our new motorised proximity and smartcard capture reader as a replacement. The MRC310 was used to read and capture magnetic stripe cards. In particular, they were fitted to FeeMaster exit pedestals to control access at car park exits and capture expired FeeMaster tokens.

At the time, we promised to continue to support MRC310 products in the field for as long as replacement components were available. We have been able to fulfil this promise for over 4 years, but unfortunately we no longer have the resources to support them.

If you have customers that are still using this product, we suggest that you discuss the option to replace Nortime and FeeMaster systems with FeeMaster Smart, which can provide exactly the same functionality using Mifare smartcards in place of magnetic stripe cards. Mifare smartcards are more secure, not prone to damage through wear and are becoming more economical than magnetic stripe cards.

If you would like to find out what is involved in replacing Nortime or FeeMaster systems with FeeMaster Smart, please contact a member of our sales team.

For OEM MRC310 installations, it may be possible to replace the MRC310 with the our new motorised card reader product. The new control interface is backwards compatible with equipment that has operated with the MRC310 and it offers the same options, including LED indicator control. However, our new motorised reader has slight differences to the MRC310 in the way it is mounted and the style of the bezel (mouthpiece).

TUP900 Discontinuation - End of Support Notice 12/04/2017

In February 2011 we introduced the new style FeeMaster entry pedestal fitted with the TUP500 ticket dispensing head, and announced the discontinuation of the sale of the Ticket Dispensers fitted with the TUP900. The TUP900 was used to issue date and time stamped paper tickets to customers entering a car park. The TUP500 is a more modern and compact ticket dispenser and the TUP900 was coming to the end of its product life.

Since the discontinuation of sale, we have been able to fulfil our promise to support the products in the field while parts were available. Unfortunately, the product is now obsolete and we therefore are unable to continue this support.

If you have customers that are still using ticket dispensers fitted with the DU900, we suggest that you discuss the option to replace the pedestal with the later FeeMaster Smart entry station, which can provide exactly the same functionality with regard to producing entry tickets.

If you would like to find out what is involved in replacing an entry pedestal with the FeeMaster Smart entry, please contact a member of our sales team.

To find out more, go to the FeeMaster Smart Entry Station page.

FeeMaster Lite Discontinuation Notice 12/04/2017

The FeeMaster Lite attendant’s console was introduced into the FeeMaster product family to provide a simple and cost-effective means of issuing exit tokens to authorised car park users. However, the market for a limited functionality console is relatively small, and a recent drop in the price of the FeeMaster Smart console considerably reduces the price benefits of the FeeMaster Lite console. The FeeMaster Smart console can be used for any of the FeeMaster Lite applications, making a separate ‘Lite’ product unnecessary.

This notice therefore serves as formal notification of the discontinuation of the FeeMaster Lite console with immediate effect. Nortech will continue to provide support for products in the field for 12 months from the date of issue of this notice, and the warranties on those products will not be affected. However, no further orders for new FeeMaster Lite products will be accepted.

Products Affected

  • FM-BUTTON-ENC - FeeMaster desktop push-button console.
  • FM-LITE - PC software for configuration and data collection for use with FM-BUTTON-ENC.

If you would like more information on the use of the FeeMaster Smart console for limited validity exit tokens, please contact our sales team.

KPW26 and KPD Keypads Discontinuation Notice 12/04/2017

The KPW26 and KPD are slimline, vandal proof and weatherproof keypads. The KPW26 stores the digits keyed into the keypad and sends the complete number to the controller in a standard 26-bit Wiegand format. The KPD sends each digit keyed as a separate 8-bit number.  Due to market requirements and technological advancements, Nortech has introduced the DX2 keypad, which can be used for both functions. The flexibility and additional features of the DX2 makes it the ideal choice for most ‘PIN only’ applications. For this reson the KPW26 and KPD keypads can no longer be included in the product range.

This notice therefore serves as formal notification of the discontinuation of the KPW26 and KPD keypads with immediate effect. Nortech will continue to provide support for products in the field for 12 months from the date of issue of this notice, and the warranties on those products will not be affected. However, no further orders for new the KPW26 and KPD keypads will be accepted.

Products Affected:

  • KPW26 - Weatherproof, vandal proof keypad with 26-bit Wiegand output.
  • KPD - Weatherproof, vandal proof keypad with 8-bit digit by digit output.

Replacement Product:

  • DX2 - Robust keypad with plastic illuminated keys. Wiegand or burst mode output

Norpass2 Discontinuation - End of Support Notice 07/02/2018

In December 2009, we announced the replacement of Norpass2 with Norpass3 as our standard PC based Access Control System, which includes the replacement of Norpass2 access control software with Norpass3 software. This change was necessary to improve the performance of the software, to allow us to evolve the software in line with host platform evolution, and to continue to enhance the system with improved performance and new feature.

At the time, we promised to continue to support Norpass2 installations in the field for as long as technically practicable and while replacement hardware components were available. We encouraged our customers to use Norpass3 in all new installations and, wherever it was appropriate to do so, to upgrade existing Norpass2 installations to Norpass3. However, we continued to support existing Norpass2 installations, and supplied new Norpass2 installations where special concessions were agreed. We have fulfilled our promise to customers by supporting Norpass2 alongside our support for Norpass3 for over eight years. However, we have now reached a point where we can no longer expect our technical support team to continue to support what is essentially an obsolete product alongside all our current and emerging products.

We must therefore formally announce the discontinuation of technical support for all Norpass2 installations with immediate effect. However, where there are Norpass2 installations, there is a proven upgrade path from Norpass2 to Norpass3, which our engineers can support. Norpass3 will provide the same functionality, while offering greater reliability plus many more features.

The upgrade from Norpass2 to Norpass3 has been successfully carried out on many installations with the support of our technical team. For customers that require the upgrade, we can offer full upgrade support for orders received by 31st July 2018.

If you would like to find out what is involved in upgrading to Norpass3 and what support services we can provide, please contact a member of our sales team.

Products Affected

Norpass2 Access Control Software and associated obsolete control units.

Replacement Products

Norpass3 Access Control Software with CRC22x and CRC200S online door controllers.

UltraPass Long-Range Remote Control Discontinuation Notice 01/09/2021

UltraPass is a high-performance UHF remote control access system for fob-controlled access through gates and barriers. It provides a 26-bit Wiegand output containing the fob identity and is designed to be used in conjunction with access control systems.

This notice therefore serves as formal notification of the discontinuation of the UltraPass range of products on 1st September 2021. Nortech will continue to fulfill orders received prior to that date and will provide support for products in the field for 12 months from that date where stocks are available. Warranties on those products will not be affected. Orders for UltraPass products received after the 1st September 2022 will not be accepted.
