Help Me Choose - Access Control
Nortech offers a range of access control solutions to match all small to medium access control requirements (up to 128 doors).
The solutions can either be ‘standalone’ (a self contained system needing only a power supply) or a PC-based networked access control system.
Access control systems can be used for multiple reasons and it can easily become confusing. That is why we have developed this resource to explain how access control systems work, specifically door access control and vehicle detection.
Both types of system support several options for validating access permissions. These include typing a numeric code (PIN) into a keypad, presenting a proximity or magstripe card or by using a long-range identification system for hands-free access. The PC-based system also offers central control via a network.
Typically, a standalone solution will be suitable for:
- Residential premises
- Small business premises where no audit trail is required
- Sports and social clubs where no audit trail is required
- Storage units
- Simple car park applications
- School offices and storerooms
These applications don't usually require a means of keeping track of access activity
PC-based access control may be more appropriate for:
- Small to medium business premises
- Large corporate premises
- Multiple-site premises
- Government buildings
- Hospitals
- Universities and Colleges
- Sports & Leisure Centres
- Sports and social clubs where audit trail is required
- Car park access with additional management requirements
These examples are only typical. There are many more applications for each type of system. The choice of system will depend upon your particular needs.
